Frequently asked questions

How do I join the union?

Online, in a few minutes: fill in the form on the Join page, add your seafarer document details, and we will contact you to confirm. No queues and no office visits.

What should I do if my wages are delayed?

Fix the facts first: contract, payslips, correspondence. Under MLC 2006 a delay of more than two months is grounds for formal action. Contact us confidentially — we will guide your next steps and support your claims.

Will you check my contract before I sign?

Yes. Send the draft contract through the site form or the assistant — we will check it against MLC 2006 requirements and point out what to watch before you sign.

The crew was left without wages and repatriation. Is this abandonment?

If the shipowner has not paid for over two months or does not provide your way home, these are signs of abandonment under MLC 2006. Do not sign any waivers and contact us — we will help document the case.

Which medical examination do I need before a voyage?

A valid medical certificate under STCW/MLC standards; some employers additionally require an extended examination (PEME). See the knowledge base article on pre-voyage medical examinations for details.
